A Day of Blessing

About ten people gathered to support the Jewish community at Kol Ami last Thursday on the second night of Passover. We had a great time! We got to talk with each other. We welcomed people as they arrived to share a meal and remember stories of liberation from enslavement. This story is a not just about some event in the past, but a statement about how the world is meant to be – and the kind of world we find meaning in working for.

It did take effort. It took time. But it was both simple and powerful.

Our wisdom communities often live in silos and we are fearful and lonely as the result.

But what would happen if we just started to show up, with permission, for one another?

We were there for about 2 hours. Some people came late and others left early. We held signs. We welcomed people with simple “Happy Passover.” We smiled.

The People of Kol Ami smiled back. They said, “Thank you for being here.”

I replied, “It’s a blessing to be here.”

It was.
